Three-hundred years ago, there was only a military drilling field in the wilderness outside the North Gate. One could hear vendors' greetings on Zongye Street once he entered the gate. There are quite a few temples on Da-Tong Street that connects this place with the Little North Gate: County Chenghuang Temple, Emperor Shennon’s Temple, Yuanho Temple, etc. During the Japanese occupation era, the Big North Gate was torn down to build the barracks of the 2nd infantry and the ancient graveyards became what is now known as Tainan Park. The baseball field in the park has been a witness to the development of baseball sport in Tainan.
