Age-old Stories from the South of the City

Route Introduction

  • Taking a walk around the remains of the city gate and explores the secret codes of space and time.

The Grand South Gate is also known as the Ning-Nan Gate. In ancient times, the city was the distribution center of vegetable and firewood vendors. It was full of shoppers and hustle-bustling voices; outside the city was the hilly tomb mound area where phosphorescent light flew around and seldom visited by people. Feel the strong contrast between two worlds-the the living past and the dead. The South Gate is the only surviving structure of the only urn-shaped structure in Tainan city. Remains of city walls can be seen outside of Tainan Girls' Senior High School. The stele forest in the park is the best place to explore the Qing Dynasty's social regulations. The Broadcasting Bureau was originally a broadcasting place during the Japanese occupation era. The Five Concubine's Shrine buried the five martyred concubines of Shu-Gui, Zhu Emperor Ning- Jing of the Ming Dynasty. Tracing this route allows us to witness the changes in time and space from ancient times to modern days.
