Zeelandia and the Retrospective Anping

Route Introduction

  •    Anping is a crucial venue of the historical development of Taiwan. In 1624, the Dutch East India Company occupied Anping and built Fort Zeelandia here, which had later grown to become an import military and economic hub. General Cheng, Cheng-Kung took the area back from the Dutch by force. All the while, many immigrants moved from China to Anping. Over time, the multitude of canals that demarcated Anping silted- up and the harbor lost its prominence. It had been the center of the salt industry during the Japanese occupation era. Now, tourism has rekindled its past glory and given it a new, albeit different, prosperity.
