Secret Literary Path of Tainan

Route Introduction

  • From Taiwan Administration to Tainan Prefecture Government

       As a city, Tainan enjoys the longest history in Taiwan, with the only Confucius Temple (The First School of Taiwan) following the traditional rituals to hold the annual sacrifice ceremony. Literature in Tainan can be traced back to the establishment of Confucius' Temple in Ming Dynasty (Koxinga's Era). It then went through Qing Dynasty, Japanese Occupational Era and post WWII era.

       One can imagine why Tainan boasts for the greatest number of local writers and the richness of their works. This route cannot acquaint you with all the literary people in Tainan, but the route will introduce you the areas around Wu Family Garden (former Tainan Public Hall), Tang De- Zhang Memorial Park (former Taisho Park), Taiwan Museum of Literature, and the Confucius' Temple.

       The route will not only give you a glimpse of the ample amount of stories of local writers, but also show you the sorrowful pages they went through after the war. Though these sightseeing spots are easily accessible and frequently visited by tourists, you will surely learn more about the secrets of local intellectuals through the teachers' guidance.
