The Five-Canal region was formally a traffic hub that was prosperous and rife with businesses. In addition to the traces of its once prosperous edifices, we can now easily see the combination of traditional features and innovative commercial modes of business. Walking along the Water Gods Temple, Shennon Street and the surrounding area where the five canals used to span: Xinganchien Harbor, Fotou Harbor, Nanshi Harbor, Nanhe Harbor and Anhai Harbor. Not only we can sense how trading affected people’s everyday life, we also feel the unique historical ambience of Tainan City. Through culturally creativity stores, we learn how traditional communities can be enlivened and represented. Though the old canals have disappeared, the everlasting special features composed of trade and culture can still be felt.
