Kyrie: Pestilence and faith in the salty area

       Beimen, formerly known as Beimen Yu (islet), is a small island on the northwest side of the ancient “inverted wind inland sea.” According to the “Beimen Yu の Legend,” looking north from Tainan City, you can see a dune island, which is called “Beimen Yu.” Today's Beimen, Yanshui, Madou, and Xiaying areas are all within the range of inverted wind inland seas on many ancient maps. After the 18th century, the inland sea was silted, and the surrounding area of Beimen Yu became land. Although there was a lot of land claimed from the sea, the soil was high in salinity and not arable. People who migrated here developed fishery and aquaculture. Before the prevalence of modern medical care, traditional medical care was connected through faith, such as the belief of Wang Ye, who blessed the fishermen of the inland sea, which is still flourishing to this day. During the endemic of black foot disease in the 1950s, assistance from modern medical treatment and the Christian mustard seed church, as well as “the Gate of Mercy” helped soothe and comfort the body, mind, and spirit of local residents. Under a special humanistic environment, a popular amateur painter—Hong Tong in the 1970s.
