Qing Dynasty Government Official’s Trail-Chunan Old Street and Zhenbei Fang
Route Introduction
Datong Street
Datong Street is to the north of today's Tzu-Chiang Street, a thoroughfare through the little north gate of the Qing Dynasty. After the Lin, Shuangwen rebellion, the government built fire cannons at the little north gate, so the street derived its name of“Datong Street”(Big Canon Street). Black Ghost Well can also be found here, a well dug by black slaves brought by Dutch people surrounded by screw pine. Consequently it is known as the“Screw Pine Well”. It dried up in the Japanese occupation era and was only repaired in 1955.
