Lâu-Nuā Sió Sai Kha

Route Introduction

  •      "Lâu-Nuā" means "drooling", and "Sió Sai Kha" points to the Minor West Gate (known as Jing-Bo Gate) both are the Min-Nan dialect, which means drooling along the Minor West Gate area. The gate's former site is in the Xi-Men roundabout in the present-day. It was built in 1755 (Qianlong 20 years) and demolished in 1907 (Meiji 40 years). It has four essences in the route:

       First of all, to introduce the historical changes of Fu'An creek. Second, the coalition from four palace/temples nearby the lagoon protected the Minor West Gate area. Third, the port's delicacy culture along from Fu'An creek to Bao'An road.  Four, the reflection on the history of demolished or preserved historic sites during the Japanese rule period.

       As known, Fu'An and De Qing are two creeks in the old Tainan city; it starts from Minor South Gate, flows to Bao'An Ē-Tāi-Tō, and down to Tai-Jiang inner sea, pass through the four temples coalition area where the Minor West Gate located. "Coalited area" refers to an organization that combines folk beliefs and cooperating defend. It can compact relations through religious activities on weekdays and play the responsibility to resist the foreign enemies' attacks and maintain residents if the war happens. It represents the corruption of the official army, which makes the people have to support themselves. The coalited area is headed by Liang imperial palace and the Sha-Tao palace in the city, the Bao'An palace outside of the city, the Hao-Lin palace, and the Earth God temple at coast guard station as the realm's temples; and the leading furnace owner take turns every three years. It is a kind of civil defense system composed of temples and a characteristic of the city. The coalited area organization has affected the daily life and urban planning of the city. The Minor West Gate was around the port and temple; due to its geographical location, Bao'An road also causes crowds to gather at the port. Besides, the temple is also a public place to connect peoples, and the group drives the tide of the economy. "Sakariba" means an amusement center that has developed since the Japanese rule period. It has become a vital food center in Tainan city. There are many "refreshment stalls," so people will drool when they think of the Minor West Gate.
