Chikan Park Area and Historical Traces
Route Introduction
“Chikan” (meaning, Redhill) is “Saccam” in Sirayan language, which means “fish” or “fish harbor”. In the Dutch occupation era, it was a harbor but now its name is a relic of the impact the canals had that once existed. The area surrounding Chikan Tower has always been very important in the development of Tainan. From a commercial and military center during Dutch colonialization that stood facing Zeelandia in Anping to a religious and cultural center in the Qing Dynasty along with the development of the streets surrounding the temple, the narrow alleys witnessed the prosperity and the succession of this area.
