Route Introduction

  •    "One Tainan, two LuKang, three MonGia, four Yuejin” - the four harbors.  Yuejin is located in YanShui, Tainan, the terrain is slightly curved, shaped like a crescent, so it was elegantly called Yuejin, the Moon Harbor.  YanShui was one of Taiwan's earliest developed towns, it is said that before Zheng Zhilong came to Taiwan (1621) there were already Han immigrants in here. 1717 (Qing Kangxi 56th Year) "Zhu Luo County Zhi" records: "YanShui Harbor Street belongs to the Grand KuiBiZhuang, with a lot of merchants and businessmen gathered here."  YanShui was the southwest coastal trade center in Qing Dynasty because of the frequent exchanges, ship transportation, and prosperity, but also the cradle of talents. In Qianlong Era of Qing Dynasty, the creation of "Kuibi Academy" and "Yuying Academy" in Taokuang Era, the cultivation of talents, local gentry "Yuejin Poetry Society" co-founded by local gentry to continue with the Chinese culture during the Japanese rule have all helped create the prosperity of literature in YanShui.

During Qing Dynasty, the YanShui Harbor had its commercial functions, specializing in doing trade with coastal cities in Fujian - sugar, silk, cloth and other major trade commodities. During the Japanese period, YanShui was dominated by the sugar industry, and the YanShui sugar factory was the headquarters of the YanShui HarborSugar Co., Ltd., which was one of the important economic lifelines of Taiwan's sugar industry at that time. Today, the architecture, streets, beehive firecrackers, industrial changes, literature and so on have their historical significance and showing the local life and cultural vitality of the people, for the important cultural assets of Tainan.
