Old Tai Jang Inner Sea: Its Previous and Current Existence

  • Life becomes colorful and full of hope after hearing the legends regarding land reclamation and water rerouting in Taijiang!

     

       The Annan District of Tainan was called Taijiang in the ancient time, occupying 107.2 square kilometers, with a population of nearly 200,000. It's the largest district of Tainan City, with Taijiang National Park in the west and Tainan Science Park in the east.

      Eight streams and rivers flow through this area, such as Zengwun Creek, Luermen Creek, Yanshuei River, and Jianan Irrigation Creeks. The wetlands in the area provide rich resources. It was once the settlement the immigrants from China. It was also once the most beautiful inner sea in Taiwan, witnessing the ecological changes in history.

      When exploring Taijiang area, we should observe the environmental changes along Taijiang River and the everyday life of villagers near big temples in order to see the stories of oceanic Taiwan and its future.
