To enter the Confucius Temple, one has to use the eastern side-door, Dachengfang on Nanmen Road, with the plaque "First School of Taiwan". The front entrance to the Temple is opened only on the annual Spring and Autumn Grand Ceremony.
It follows the traditional architecture principle, with the school on the left and the temple on the right. The temple has three halls with two enclosed courtyards, and a unique Pan pond in the front. For more than three hundred years, Tainan Confucius Temple has been maintaining its tradition to hold the annual spring and autumn worshipping ceremony to honor Confucius and other great educators following the ancient rituals.
A cattle, a pig, and a sheep are offered as sacrifices in the festival. The rituals begin from early morning, containing 38 procedures. Speculators can take part in the event of plucking hair of wisdom from the sacrifices after the ceremony.
The elegant red walls around the temple and the old trees in the yard are eternally charming. Recently, the city government designated the temple and its neighboring historical sites as the Confucius Temple Cultural Park. Visitors can explore Martial Arts Hall, Yonghua Palace, Dehua Temple, Koxingas Shrine, remains of Great South Gate, Stone Stele Forest, and Tainan Broadcasting Bureau in a roll.
