Route Introduction

Water Gods Temple

Water Gods Temple was built in 1703 (Kanxi Period of the Qing Dynasty) worshipping five water gods including Dayu. It is situated at the end of Nan-Shih harbor, holding a crucial position in both waterway and land traffic. In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, three types of tradesmen (northern, southern and sugar tradesmen) built their offices here called“Sanyi Tang”. The Water Gods Temple became the commercial center of Tainan at that time. After many renovations, the appearance has completely changed. Surrounding the temple is the Water Gods Temple Market with many delicious snacks obtainable here.
