Route Introduction
Stony Archway of Official Reception Pavilion
Government officials sent to Taiwan in the Qing Dynasty departed from Xiamen, travelling across the Taiwan Strait (the so-called“Black Ditch”) and the roaring waves were reputed to be“killing 6, keeping 3, sending one straight back home”. They were exhausted when they reached Taiwan but still needed to take a smaller boat into the canal of the city. To provide them with a warm welcome, the pavilion was built here to serve as a resting lounge. The existing archway is one of the four most notable ancient archways in Tainan.
