Yangping Street was the first street in the Dutch colonial era, the center of people's life, and was called“The first street of Taiwan”(Taiwan di-yi jie). The street was paved with stony plates, so it was also called “stony-plate street”(shihban jie) or Market Street. Some earth-brick houses, red-brick one-story houses and Western-style bungalows have been preserved alongside rebuilt concrete houses, which give a diversified ambience. Early-time snacks and children's toys, pickled fruit, candies are its main attractions for tourists.
