Kyrie: Pestilence and faith in the salty area

Route Introduction

Beimen Washing Salt Tourism Factory

Formerly known as the Beimen Washing Salt Factory, the factory's history dates back to the Japanese occupation period, and it is the only survivor of the four major washing salt factories under the Monopoly Bureau of the Governor's Office of Japan. After Japan's defeat in World War II, the factory was taken over by the National Government and continued to operate. Southern Taiwan, entitled to strong sunshine, and dry season, had the salt industry developed. The washing salt factory is responsible for washing and processing the sun-dried coarse salt into refined salt for daily use, supplying the entire of Taiwan. The warehouse building has been maintained and restored, and the original gabled pitched roof shape is still preserved to this day. On the wall of the warehouse area are paintings by Hong Tong, a local artist of Beimen, known as “Picasso of the East” and “Paranormal Painter,” which produced cultural and creative ideas that combined art and industry.
