Old Tai Jang Inner Sea: Its Previous and Current Existence

Route Introduction

Green Passageway along Jianan Irrigation Creeks

Protecting the lives and the environment, loving the townships and water,
the Green Passage along Taijiang Mountain & Sea Irrigation Ditch

Protecting the lives and the environment, loving the townships and water, tracing and study the Green Passage along Taijiang Mountain & Sea Irrigation Ditch guarded by the patron god of Taijiang Cultivation <<Da Dao Gong>> (Po-Seng-Tai-Te)!

The passage was sponsored and maintained by the communities along Taijiang: Chaio-Huang Temple of Hai-wei, Taijiang Branch of Tainan Community University, Little Taijiang, etc. Together they worked with Tainan City Government, Taijiang National Park, Water Resources Agency, TMI Trail to co- build a cultural passageway of water and green trees. Following the green avenue, people walk right into Taijiang villages and their culture.

From planting trees along Jia-nan Irrigation Ditch, cleansing pollution, all the way for 45 kilometers to Wushantou Reservoir, local communities and associations plant bead trees, collect trash along the river banks regularly, and hold the same spirit of "protecting life and environment" like that of the Po-Seng Tai Te and spare no effort in protecting the environment of the hometown.

Yet, because of improper urban planning and industrial development, 9 industrial zones have been built within 10 km around National Museum of Taiwan History, four of which do not come with their own waste-water treatment plants.

Taijiang area has been doomed to be sacrificed. Local Taijiang area communities try to protect the river, came up with a social movement to protect the life and environment through social design. They proposed the project of Green Passage along Taijiang Mountain & Sea Irrigation Ditch.

It is their hope that more young people and citizens will trail the passage and come to understand the value of the ecology, history and culture of Taijiang and join in the civil action. Together, we might be able to make a new home of culture, ecology and health possible.
