Route Introduction

Butokuden, Hsinhua

The butokuden in Hsinhua was built in 1924 as Hsinhua Malaria Prevention and Control Office. In 1936, it became a martial arts arena for the Hsinhua Branch of the Tainan Branch of the Greater Japan Bokuden Association for people to practice judo and kendo. After the war, it became a dormitory for policemen and their families, and it was not until 2006, when it was registered as a historical building, that it was renovated into a public space for Hsinhua residents. In addition to static art exhibitions, lectures, and concerts are held in the vast indoor space of the hall, and Kendo teaching is also held here, as well as a place for social education.
