Route Introduction

Yongfu Elementary School

Former Qing Dynasty Provincial Administration remains

The land of Yongfu Primary School was used by the Tainan Civil Affairs Branch, the Tainan Government House, the Governor's Commercial School, the Tainan City Government Office, and other institutions at different stages during the Japanese Occupation. After the war, Yongfu Elementary School, which was renamed Nanmen Common Elementary School during the Japanese occupation, was moved to this place, and after several repairs, it adopted its current appearance. In 2018, during the construction, the remains of seemingly Qing Dynasty brick building foundations were excavated, which were later confirmed to be the remains of the Qing Dynasty Taiwan Military Office, as well as the pillar foundation relics rebuilt during the Japanese Occupation, and was designated as municipal monuments in 2021. These are not only important official relics in Taiwan, but also reflect the evolution since the Japanese occupation period, and are important historical witnesses of Tainan City.
