Ginza: Commercial tracks from harbors to modern streets

Route Introduction

Former Tainan Prefecture Hall and Prefecture Association
Now National Museum of Taiwan Literature and Tainan City Central & Western District Library

The current Taiwan Literature Museum and the Central & Western District Library are divided into two buildings, they are both office buildings in Tainan Prefecture during the Japanese occupation, and the latter was only a conference room building that was added in the 10th year of Meiji (1935) given the lacking in meeting space. This addition is particularly significant in that on the one hand, the two buildings are connected by a sky walkway, reflecting that the state capital was still affiliated with the state hall during the Japanese occupation, and on the other hand, the street texture of the two buildings is deliberately shaped by the topography of the streets of Hiroshimachi-dori. After the war, Since the main hall was changed to the Air Force Supply Command and then the Tainan City Government and the state conference room was successively used by the Tainan City Senate and the Tainan City Council, it was gradually divided into two alienated historical contexts. The main building was designated as a municipal monument in 1998 and upgraded to a national monument in 2003; The state conference room was declared a municipal monument in 2004, and now it is reused as an important local cultural and educational facility for urban living and sightseeing in Tainan City.
