Route Introduction

 Jin-Pu Pond

Located on the east side of Taiwan 1st Freeway at Jong-Sher Village of Liu-Jia District, it is one of the important ponds at the source of Wu-Shan-Tou Reservoir. Because of its three major values: agricultural irrigation, continuous water storage, and cultural background, the National Construction Department announced a total of 18 "Jia-Nan Pi-Zhen" national wetland areas on January 28, 2015, and Jing-Pu Pond was one of them. According to the Nan-Ying River Chronicle, Jing-Pu Pond was built at the expense of Jie-Gao, Huang, in the Jong-Sher Village (on the 44th year of the Qianlong Era in Ching Dynasty) in 1779. It was included in the public square in 1916 (5th year of Taisho Era). After the construction of Wu-Shan-Tou Reservoir was completed and Jia-Nan Irrigation Ditch, the Jing-Pu Pond was transformed into a water pond for water regulation, but still retains irrigation function. In 1972, Wei Chuan Food Corp. established Lin-Feng-Ying Ranch here.

They planted an entire deciduous pine forest between Jing-Pu Pond and Lin-Feng-Ying Ranch, in order to strike a balance on greenhouse gas emissions from the animals and odor control. In the winter times, the tree leaves turn from green to reddish-brown, and the beautiful scenery of water and woods attracts people to come here for cultural sightseeing. Next to it is the Jing-Pu Pond Pumping Station (Water-Pomping Station) built-in 1930, which preserves industrial heritage such as engines and pumping units imported from Switzerland during the Japanese occupation era. The four nearby scenic spots of Jing-Pu Pond, Lin-Feng-Ying Ranch, Bald Cypress Forest, and Jing-Pu Pond Water Pumping Station ark show the close relationship between the culture of Liu-Jia Pond and agriculture/livestock industry, and all these forms precious wetland ecology in the Liu-Jia area.
