Route Introduction

Stony Monuments Archive

It is a gather place of ancient stony monuments. As the elapse of times, the process of building’s demolition and reconstruction of city, most of stony monuments moves here and forming today’s unique historical and cultural landscape. They are divided into six categories by its characteristics: 1. Honors Memorial monuments- to commemorate the good officials' love for the people and the implementation of benevolent government, so the monument is a paragon of diligence and honesty virtue. 2. Constructed monuments- Record the construction matters in the city, such as building temples and bridges, walls and buildings, witnessing various projects in the town. 3. Architectural monuments- Ceremony Palace, Wind God Temple, Worship Pavilion, it can see the architectural form and pattern of the past. 4. Donor monuments-the name, title, shop number and currency value, it presents the historical significance in different period. 5. Historic monuments- poetry or prose to condole the loyalty of the five imperial concubines. 6. Forbidden monuments- it preserves abundant social archives such as to prohibit and restrict guard soldiers to extort, vicious beggar begging alms, cheat by the corpse, and so on. Most of the inscriptions are written in Chinese, but "Memorial Monument for the Reconstruction of industrial Road outside Tainan" was erected during the Japanese rule period.
