Fantastic Trips to Know Sugar and Salt production
Route Introduction
Xiaolong Cultural Park in Jiali
The sugar-making industry has been around since before Dutch colonialization and came to be a thriving trade in the Qing Dynasty. The sugar-making was industrialized and became prosperous in the Japanese occupation era with the construction of the Jianan Irrigation Ditch. The low profit margin caused the industry to come to a halt. The Xiaolong Cultural Park was where the sugar factory was located, a juncture of sugar and salt industries where the Siraya tribe dwelt. We may learn from the introduction of Sirayan culture in the park. The train rails that were used to carry sugarcanes are still preserved in the park.
