The tile-paved salt field enjoys a long history in Taiwan. Similar to Cigu salt field, it was started about 300 years ago. The structure of the salt field is wholly preserved, with the big vaporizing pond, small vaporizing pond and crystalizing pond. Visitors can have hands-on experience for salt-making. It is a popular spot in Taiwan where photographers take good pictures of the sunset. A journey around the salt field reveals decorations inspired with nursery rhymes. Every October, the lagoons outside of the salt field harbor many migrating birds, eg. Whiskered terns.
