It was said the Cigu Salt Field was started by Chen, Yonghua at the end of Ming Dynasty. The industry was run by many people. Yet, the salt industry became a national business in the Qing Dynasty in order to maintain stabilize of this prized commodity. The salt industry almost ceased during the Japanese occupation era, yet it sufficiently recovered and modernized to become competitively industrialized.
