The Ancient Battlefield of Taijang

“Worshipping”(Bai) was a reflection of ancient Taiwanese people that had an effect on both their environment and lives. A common person's ritual consisted of revealing the“clarity of sincerity”and“cleanliness of reflection”from body and mind. Worshipping the creek- bank, too, was a ritual of reflection after suffering from a flood. They walked along the bank of the creek at the end of the seventh lunar month. Every household carried offerings and flocked together to the old river bank of Cengwen Creek to worship the Qingshui Master and pray to heaven and earth. It is a ritual to remind people the importance of co-existence with Nature and turn suffering into a guarding power in the expectation of enduring peace.
