Tainan State Government Hall dating from the Japanese occupation era is also a work of Matsunosuke Moriyama's. Before the construction of the police department at the corner of Nanmen Road and Youai Street, part of the government hall was used as a police station. After the KMT came to Taiwan, its troops took over the state government hall and it became the air force headquarters. Only till much later did it become the Taiwan City Hall. Now the site has been renovated into the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, harboring an archive of manuscripts of Taiwanese writers, literary periodicals and literary documents, a significant place of Taiwanese literature studies. Thematic exhibitions and lectures are held here. On its southwestern side sits ancient heritage from the former forestry office (Shanlin Shiwusuo), which has now become a literary memorial hall for writer Ye, Shitao.
