Dr. Thomas Barclay contributed sixty years to Taiwan. He started Tainan Theological College and Seminar y, and he started Tâi-oân Kàu-hōe-Kong- po-sia and introduced movable-type printing into Taiwan. The first newspaper agency Gentle Herbs Co. Ltd. (the predecessor of Tâi-oân Kàu-hōe-Kong- po-sia) was established in 1884, and the first newspaper in Taiwan Tâi-oân Kàu- hōe-Kong-po was launched in 1885. It is the newspaper that enjoys the longest history and a treasure trove of century- ole Taiwanese history.
