Hatta Yoichi Memorial Park

N0. 66 Jia-Nan Li, Guantian District, Tainan City

Hatta Yoichi Memorial Park is located on the northern side of the reservoir. There are four Japanese-styled dormitories in the park–Hatta Residence, Akasaka Residence, Abe Residence , and Tanaka do Ichikawa Residence, the dormitories for engineers Hatta Yoichi and his peers who built Wu-Shan-Tou Reservoir. It was built in 1921, and these dormitories were abandoned after the Japanese went back to the country after the war. The park was established to commemorate the contribution of Hatta Yoichi to Jia-Nan Plain. The reconstruction work depended on the remaining structures and the pictures and manuscripts obtained from Hatta descendants. It was completed in 2011 after two years of reconstruction. The interior furniture of the residence is old furniture donated by Kanazawa, Ishikawa, and Hatta's hometown. The dormitories come in two types: twinunit and single-unit, and the "Tanaka and Ichikawa" is a twin-unit Japanesestyle building. It can accommodate two families. Each household has an independent entrance and exit. At that time, it was dwelt by mechanical technicians Tanaka Giichi and Ichikawa Katsuji. It has been used as a dormitory for the mid-rank official of irrigation association. The Hatta's dwelt Hatta Residence, a western-styled study, was added after Hatta was promoted. Mechanical chief Nagakura formerly dwelt Akasaka Residence; then, it was taken over by Wu-Shan-Tou Dormitory Director Akasaka Shin. Akasaka's eldest daughter Ayako married Hatta's eldest son Teruo. Abe Residence was the residence of dam-building chief Abe Sadahisa, who succeeded Hatta Yoichi as the director.
