Si-Cao Salt Pans Ecology & Culture Village

No. 12, Lane 101, Da-Zhong Street, An’nan District, Tainan City
Opening hours │ Monday to Sunday from 8:00 to 17:00

Combining the Salt Pans Ecology & Culture Village and Si-Cao Wildlife Reserve Area, the total area reached 355 hectares. It was formerly known as the An-Shun Saltworks in Nan-Liao, Tainan (developed by "Taiwan Salt Co., Ltd." in 1919). During the Japanese occupation period, it was first Taiwan's tile- basin salt industry base that was later transformed into industrial salt production after the war. After salt drying stopped in 1994, the "Si-Cao wild animal protection zone" was established in the former industrial zone. The residents who lived here were affected by the terrain and moved the village to Bei-Liao at the end of 2002, and the "Salt Pans Ecology&Culture Village "was formally established as a settlement that features both ecological culture and tourism.

Given the salt village's rich resources in culture, history, and ecology, Tainan City Government has been carrying out the recoveries of the tile-basin salt pans, preserving cultural assets, setting up a salt industry archive to preserve relevant historical sites of the salt industry, salt village culture and Tai-Jiang fish herbarium, a whale and dolphin rescue pool, Tai-Jiang Whale and Dolphin Pavilion and Tai-Jiang Bird Ecological Pavilion to promote ecological conservation.
