Route Introduction

Centennial Tainan Geta Clogs Store(振行鞋行)

No. 318 Xi-Men Road, Sec. 2, Central-Western District, Tainan Cit

The "Bak-Kiah" in the Taiwanese dialect is a kind of clogs, one of the oldest attire items. In humid, rainy weather with flooded areas, wooden clogs with thicker soles help people move through the muddy area with ease. There was hence an idiom: "One makes money easier with Bak-Kiah on, the house will be filled with treasure and money." Zheng-Xin Shoe Store is located on the circle at the corner of MinChu Road and Xi-Men Road, enjoying a history of more than 100 years. Mr. Chuan-Lu, Kuo, the first-generation owner, learned the skills from Japanese makers and founded the Geta factory. Mr. Ze-Gen, Kuo expanded further on the foundation and set up Zheng-Xin Shoe Store at this location. The ups and downs of the business witnessed the prosperity and waning of Geta and rubber-sole shoes. Mr. Tzong-Hsing, Kuo, the thirdgeneration owner, firmly believes that "the tradition will strike back," so he has been persistent in keeping the business alive through all this time and passes on the skills to the fourth generation.
