The Grace of Yanshui Harbor: Rejuvenation of Yanshui and Hopi Settlements

Route Introduction

Yuejin Harbor

Yuejin Harbor was the former name of Yenshui, but only the remains of the port can be seen now. Yanshui town was once prosperous because of this harbor. The Qiaonan old street by the harbor was the business center due to its location on the crossing roads in Qing Dynasty.

Many ancient-looking houses made of earth and wood have been preserved till now. A blacksmith workshop is still standing at the corner of the street entrance. Turning into the old street from Xinglong Bridge, visitors seem to enter a different world. Zhongzheng Road was built on old streets from the Japanese- era, so many street houses preserve the Showa-style facades. Hupi Temple, one of the oldest Matsu temples in Taiwan, is located in the southern part of the town facing the old harbor.

The two inscribed plaques from Qing Dynasty are the evidence of its the long history. The current temple building was reconstructed in 1959 and completed in 1972, featuring important wall paintings of Master Pan Li-Shui, and many ceramic cutting and pasting art pieces made by Master Ye Jin-Yi.
