The Grace of Yanshui Harbor: Rejuvenation of Yanshui and Hopi Settlements

Route Introduction

Dingchang Community

The Dingchang Community refers to the Upper Changduanshu Village, a typical agricultural community. After the completion of Jianan Irrigation System in 1930, water was transported here from Wushantou Reservoir via the North Main Line, Jingliao Branch Line and Changduanshu Branch Line, which comparatively stabilized water supply for rice and sugarcane plantation.

Fangrong Rice Mill is one of the landmarks in the community. In 2006, a rice production and sales association was established with almost 90 farmers in Xinying and Liuying areas. Every rice paddy in the district has been registered in the traceability system, so the entire production process, from soil testing, seeding, transplanting, fertilizing, pesticide usage, weeding, to harvesting, are all monitored and tracked by computer.

Consumers can view the farming process online by scanning a 2D barcode on the product package. The community residents are mostly elderly, so to provide better care to the residents, a community care center was established on June 3, 2017. The center is located in the old house of Mr. Zhuang Jiangshui (known as Jiangshui Bo), offered to the community by his son without charges.

Residents can come to the center to meet friends and have their blood pressure measured and recorded daily. The adjacent old turkey coop was converted into a community gathering place. With the help of volunteers, local ingredients are sourced to provide meals for the community elders during the weekdays.

Yongantang is the religious center of the community worshipping Qingshui Zushi. The distinctive Songjiang battle array usually march in the very front of the Yongantang's gods-welcoming ritual. The interior walls of the temple are also painted with the murals of the Songjiang Battle Array.

Presently, there are 24 members, who are often invited to perform exorcising service by local people or stores. The square opposite to Yongantang has been decorated with these cultural elements of local communities from the funds of rural regeneration projects from the government.
