Located in Tainan City, the Nanyu Planetarium is located on the Erxigong Hill of the Danei District. With a hilly terrain of high and low, the park conforms to the hillside topographical design. The Planetarium was first set up in 2004, and began to expand, with the Star Pavilion and surrounding landscape platforms, mountain walkways, and other outdoor facilities, to complete the park's main amenities in 2012. In 2010, Tainan County was merged into the City, and then the “Nanyin Astronomical Education Park” was renamed “Nanyin Planetarium” and the Children's Science Museum in the North District was merged into the “Tainan City Nanyin Science Education Museum,” and the trial operation began on February 1, 2013, with the official opening on June 29 of the same year. The location of the planetarium is low in light damage, and the surrounding field of view is wide and suitable for observing the celestial bodies. During the day, one can also see the Zengwen River's curvy sub-streams, river-stair terrain, the mud rock formations at Moon World, and other rich geological landscapes. The planetarium is equipped with the largest telescope in Taiwan (main mirror with 76 centimeters in diameter) to provide astronomical observations.
